Classical Ballet Classes in Barcelona

Posture, strength and elegance with Cuban-trained teachers

Learn ballet with the Cuban methodology that trained legends like Carlos Acosta: rigor, musicality and expression to improve posture, lines and confidence – beginner or advanced.

What is Ballet and how does it transform lives?

Classical ballet is more than a dance style; it is a discipline that strengthens your body and mind, and improves your overall well-being. Beyond training professional dancers, ballet offers accessible benefits for everyone, from improving posture and balance to enhancing concentration and memory.

Since the late 17th century, Pierre Beauchamp established the five basic foot positions that still constitute the universal language of ballet today. Although born in Italy, it was in France where this technique took its definitive form, which is why we use terms like plié, tendu and jeté to name its most recognized movements.

At Farray's, we fuse classical technique with the explosive power of the Cuban ballet school, which trained Carlos Acosta –considered for decades one of the best dancers in the world, compared to Nureyev and Baryshnikov for his aerial virtuosity–. This unique methodology brings athletic strength, expressiveness and musicality that enhance any dance, from hip hop and afrobeat to flamenco or contemporary dance, making ballet the essential technical foundation for complete dancers.

Practicing ballet improves motor coordination, flexibility, muscular strength, balance and body awareness, facilitating the technical development of any dancer and promoting a healthy and disciplined lifestyle for those who simply seek well-being and bodily expression.

Frequently Asked Questions about our Ballet classes in Barcelona

What exactly is classical ballet?

Classical ballet is a form of stage dance that originated in the Italian Renaissance courts and developed in France. It is characterized by its codified technique (the 5 foot positions created by Beauchamp), elegant and precise movements, and French vocabulary. It is the technical basis of all other dance forms.

Can I start ballet as an adult with no prior experience?

Absolutely. At Farray's we have specific classes for adult beginners. You don't need prior flexibility or any dance experience. Our teachers specialize in teaching adults who start from scratch.

What clothes and footwear do I need for ballet classes?

To start, fitted clothing that allows your posture to be seen (tights, fitted leggings) and ballet slippers (the classic ones). For your first class you can come with socks and fitted comfortable clothes. We will guide you on the appropriate equipment.

Is ballet good physical exercise?

Excellent. Ballet works all muscle groups, especially core stabilizers and deep muscles. It improves flexibility, strength, balance and coordination. One class burns approximately 300-400 calories and tones without creating muscle bulk.

What is the difference between classical and neoclassical ballet?

Classical ballet follows traditional rules established in the 17th-19th centuries (codified positions, tutu, pointe, narrative). Neoclassical, developed in the 20th century by choreographers like Balanchine, maintains classical technique but with greater freedom of movement, simpler costumes and more abstract choreography.

What is the difference between Classical Ballet and Lyrical Contemporary?

Classical ballet is based on a codified technique with precise positions and movements, pointe work, turnout and a formal aesthetic. Lyrical contemporary combines that technical foundation with greater expressive freedom, fluid movements, floor work and emotional connection to the music. At our academy we offer both styles so you can explore whichever one connects best with you.

Who are the ballet teachers at Farray's?

Daniel Sene teaches Intermediate Ballet on Mondays at 8pm. Alejandro Miñoso, Cuban teacher trained at the ENA and former Carlos Acosta soloist, teaches Beginner Ballet on Thursdays at 11am. Both combine technical rigor with an accessible approach for adults.

Can I try a Ballet class before enrolling?

Depending on the season, the welcome class for residents may be free or have a special welcome price. For tourists, it is paid. If you like it and decide to stay, the amount is deducted from your first payment.

What ballet levels do you have?

We currently offer two levels: Beginners (Thursdays 11am with Alejandro) for those starting from zero or with little experience, and Intermediate (Mondays 8pm with Daniel) for those who already master basic positions and fundamental barre exercises.

What if I miss a class due to work or commitments?

If you have a membership and cancel a class, you have 30 days to make it up. Everything is managed from our app, conveniently and without complications.

What kind of music is used in ballet classes?

Mainly classical music: Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Delibes, Minkus... The great composers of the ballet repertoire. The music is specifically designed for each exercise: adagio for slow movements, allegro for jumps, etc.

Can I sign up at any time of year?

Yes, enrollment is open all year. There is no "course" with a fixed start date. You can join whenever you want and follow the class pace.

Do you organize performances or galas?
