What is Cuban Timba?

Timba is the dance music that plays in Cuba today. It is the result of the natural evolution of Cuban music adapting to how Cuban youth dance today.

Timba fuses traditional Cuban rhythms—Yorúba music, Rumba and Son—with the musicality of modern genres like Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae and Funky. It is freedom of musical interpretation, personal style, 21st century Cuban flavor.

What level of salsa do I need to start Timba?

For Basic Lady Timba (Friday) and Partner Timba classes (Tuesday), we recommend at least 6 months of Cuban salsa classes. For Intermediate/Advanced Lady Timba (Thursday), we recommend at least 1 year of Cuban salsa experience and at least 6 months of experience in Salsa Cubana Lady Style.

What is the difference between Partner Timba and Lady Timba?

Partner Timba (Tuesday) works on musical interpretation when you dance with someone and they momentarily let you go. Lady Timba (Thursday and Friday) is focused exclusively on feminine style and is only for women.

Can I come without a partner to the Partner Timba class?

For the Tuesday Partner Timba class, it is recommended to come with a partner as connection exercises are worked on. For Lady Timba you don't need a partner, it's individual.

What is the "despelote" they mention so much?

The "despelote" is the moment in Timba music where the rhythm intensifies and dancers "let loose" to improvise with freer and more expressive movements. It's the most fun part of Timba.

What clothes should I wear to Timba class?

Comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely. For Lady Timba, many students come in clothes that make them feel feminine (skirts, dresses). Footwear: dance shoes or socks.

Will Timba help me improve my Cuban salsa?

Absolutely. Timba and Cuban salsa go hand in hand. What you learn in Timba (musical interpretation, improvisation, despelote) directly improves your partner dancing.

How much does the welcome class cost?

The welcome class costs €10. If you sign up that same day, it is deducted from the first month.

Is there a contract or minimum commitment?

No. At Farray's we work month to month, without contracts or commitments. You only pay for the months you come.

Can I try all three Timba classes before deciding?

Yes, you can try each class paying €10 for each. This way you can see which one best suits your level and preferences.

Are Timba classes only for women?

Lady Timba (Thursday and Friday) is exclusively for women. Partner Timba (Tuesday) is mixed and both men and women can attend.

What music is used in Timba classes?

We use authentic Cuban Timba: Los Van Van, NG La Banda, La Charanga Habanera, Havana D'Primera, Maykel Blanco and more. Music that is danced at Cuban salsa parties.

Can I start in Intermediate Lady Timba if I have never done Lady Timba?

If you have a good level of Cuban salsa (+2 years), you can start directly at the intermediate level. If you have doubts, come try a class and Yunaisy will guide you.
